4-H/FFA exhibits will be registered in the Exhibit Building on the fairgrounds from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday prior to opening of fair. All pets, cats, dogs, goats and horses will be registered on the day of their shows.

SMALL PETS AND RABBITS:

Any small pet whose health would be at risk due to heat or other conditions at the fair (this includes hamsters, fish, birds, etc.) MUST be exhibited by posters (1/2 size poster board) in the exhibit building. Rabbits are to be registered 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday prior to opening of fair at the rabbit hutch. Rabbits will be judged on Saturday, opening day of fair. Exhibitors MUST be with their rabbits during judging. Rabbits must be on exhibit at the Fair all week.


4-H /FFA POULTRY INFORMATION

Any exhibior taking a 4-H /FFA poultry project (baby chicks, laying flock, turkeys, etc.) MUST exhibit their project by a poster (1/2 sheet poster board size). The Putnam County Fair does not allow chickens to be exhibited due to a West Virginia State requirement that any poultry must have a blood test to ensure it is disease free. The liability is too great for the Fair to chance. Poultry 4-H/FFA  projects MUST be exhibited by posters. ALL 4-H/FFA POSTER EXHIBITS MUST BE 1/2 SIZE POSTER BOARD.


4-H PROJECT DIVISIONS

4-H projects will be exhibited together by the following divisions. Up to two project exhibits in each division will be selected as “Best in Class” and will be exhibited at the West Virginia State Fair, August 2015. For detailed listing of each category, please contact Scott Byars at 586-0217.


AWARDS:

Food Preparation, Animal Used for Food, Food Preservation, Clothing, Horticulture Crops: Blue – $5.00; Red – $4.00; White – $3.00 (these are necessities of life projects).
All other 4-H Project exhibit awards are: Blue – $3.00; Red – $2.00; White – $1.00.
NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED IN EXHIBIT AREA EXCEPT JUDGES AND ASSISTANTS DURING JUDGING TIME. JUDGING WILL TAKE PLACE FROM 9:00 AM 1:00 PM ON SATURDAY, OPENING DAY OF FAIR.


4-H EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITS:

Each 4-H (Community Type) Club will arrange an education exhibit on Friday prior to fair opening from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. These exhibits will be judged on Saturday, opening day of fair. Exhibit space will be limited to 30 x 30 table size only.


4-H CLUB SCRAPBOOK:

Each 4-H (Community Type) club is asked to exhibit a club scrapbook of news articles, certificates, pictures, etc. depicting the club’s involvement for the year. These will be judged based on contents, creativity, originality, attractive cover and evidence that 4-H youth played a major role in putting the scrapbook together. Juding will be on opening day of the fair at 9:00 a.m.
Cash Awards and ribbons for Educational Exhibit and Club Scrapbook will be presented to the 4-H clubs as follows:

  • 1st Place – $20.00 and Blue Rossette
  • 2nd Place – $15.00 and Red Rossette
  • 3rd Place – $10.00 and White Rossette
  • 4th Place – $5.00 and Yellow Rossette

ALL 4-H EXHIBITS (EXCEPT THOSE DESIGNATED TO BE DISPLAYED AT THE STATE FAIR) MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE EXHIBIT BUILDING ON SUNDAY, AFTER CLOSING OF THE FAIR, FROM 9 AM TO 4 PM. 4-H PROJECTS WILL BE EXHIBITED THE ENTIRE WEEK OF FAIR. THE FAIR BOARD IS NOT RESPONSIBILE FOR EXHIBITS NOT PICKED UP ON SUNDAY, AFTER CLOSING OF FAIR.

STATE FAIR OF WEST VIRGINIA

4-H Project Exhibits selected by the judges as “Best of Class” must not be picked up and removed from Fairgrounds. The winning exhibits will be registered, transported, and on exhibit at the State Fair of West Virginia August 2019.
